Description

お釈迦様が覚りを得た場所を記念して、アショーカ王が紀元前3世紀に建てたマハーボーディ寺院(大菩提寺)の正面。高さは52mだそうです。現在は世界遺産に登録され改修工事が進められています。(労使間交渉の決裂で足場を残したまま工事がストップしてるらしいですが) 入口が周りの地面より低いのは､イスラム勢力が攻めて来る前に埋めて小山にしてしまったからだそうです。そのおかげで破壊されずに今日まで残りました。 (2005/01/25 Buddha Gaya, Bihar, INDIA)
