Italian seaplane Macchi M.5 used by the U.S. Navy in WWI 1918

It features a portrait photograph of Lieutenant David S. Ingalls, the U.S. Navy's first aerial "ace" (right), and a view of Lieutenant George H. Ludlow seated in an Italian-built Macchi M.5 flying boat (left). Ludlow flew a dropping mission to the austrian-hungarian port of Pola in the Adriatic Sea.

Inset is a photograph of Ensign Charles H. Hammann, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for rescuing Ludlow on 21 August 1918.
