Description

Tonsillectomy by guillotine using this type of instrument was a standard treatment for those who experienced recurring throat infections in the late 1800s. This design was developed by Morell Mackenzie (1837-1892), a physician and laryngologist. Tonsillectomy by guillotine gradually fell out of favour in the twentieth century, although the technique remains in use to this day.
