| Description |
English: Male couple on a futon. A man reclines with one wakashū and converses with another. Possibly the first nanshoku erotic print, as well as an early example of a hand-colored ukiyo-e print in the shunga (erotic) style.
The cursive inscription reads, in modern Kanji, 世の中の人の心は飛鳥川 きのうの淵は今日は瀬となる」 In translation, ”The hearts of the people of the world are the Asuka River yesterday's abyss is today's rapids ” Ôban format, 10.25" x 15"; Sumi ink and color on paper; Private collection. From a shunga album, own scan. |
