Málaga – Memorial to the Defenders of Málaga on February 5, 1810.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Málaga, Memorial to the Defenders of Málaga on February 5, 1810 against the napoléonic invasion.

Commemorative monument unveiled on July 15, 2013 in the formerly named Parque de la Balsa de Decantación del Rio Teatinos,
since 2019 renamed Parque de los Héroes del Combate de Teatinos, to recall the resistance opposed to the invading napoléonic troops by soldiers under Coronel Abello and volunteers from Málaga, on February 5, 1810
The engagement took place at this very spot, along the former road to Antequera.
Overwhelmed by that napoléonic war machine, the defenders were undone, but the fight went on in the center on Málaga, around the Hermitage of Zamarilla (Ermita de Zamarilla), and in the quarters (barrios) of La Trinidad and El Perchel where plaques have also been affixed.
The French commander (Sebastiani) illustrated himself by having the city sacked and imposing oppressive war damages, and by his brutality.

Since 2010, a ceremony is held annually at the initiative of the Asociación Histórico – Cultural “Teodoro Reding” de Málaga.
