Description |
English: Luther B. Youngs came from Kentucky to Seattle in 1883 and went into the construction business. This was a good business to be in in the 1880s, because Seattle's population was growing very fast. According to Seattle city directories, there were 3,553 residents in 1880 and 43,835 residents in 1890.
In this photo, taken sometime between 1883 and 1889, workers in Luther Youngs' construction company stand in front of their building project. The women and children in the photo may be family members. From 1895 to 1923, Youngs served as Superintendent of the Seattle Water Department.
