Original caption: "Second Lt. Lee H. Osborne, 0-814527, Columbus, Ohio, is shown at Camp Patrick Henry, Virginia, soon after returning to America, holding a pair of sun glasses which were shattered and knocked off his face by an exploding 20mm shell from an attacking ME-109, in a raid over Mersburg, Germany, 28 July 1944. Piloting a Flying Fortress, he was wounded on his twenty-sixth mission and crashed after completing thirty-five missions. Lt. Osborne has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, and European-African Theater Campaign Ribbon.
