Summary[edit]

Description
English: "Highway" near Bandung, in 1866. When is the river too wide for a suspension bridge to be built, carriages to be crossed by ferry boats; when the slope is too steep, the towing animals have to be released and the carriage is lowered to the riverbank while being held with rattan ropes. The end of the rope is worn by little girls and boys without any clothing.
Bahasa Indonesia: ”Jalan raya" di dekat Bandung, pada tahun 1866. Manakala sungai terlalu lebar untuk dapat dibangun jembatan gantung, kendaraan diseberangkan dengan perahu tambang; manakala lereng terlalu curam, hewan penariknya terpaksa dilepas dan kereta diturunkan hingga tepi sungai sambil ditahan dengan tali rotan. Ujung tali dikenakan oleh anak perempuan dan laki-laki kecil tanpa pakaian apapun.
