Summary[edit]
DescriptionLower Weir, River Wharfe, Linton, Yorkshire - geograph.org.uk - 879379.jpg |
English: Lower Weir, River Wharfe, Linton, Yorkshire There seems to be some confusion about the weirs and falls at Linton: there are two weirs, the upper one being just visible in this picture, and moreover, this upper weir is in the next gridsquare west - i.e. it is west of the 2 degree meridian, whereas this lower weir is east of the meridian. Linton Falls are below both weirs and are, in fact, below the footbridge, formerly called the Tin Bridge, but replaced by a wooden one around 1990. It never was tin, anyway, it was probably wrought iron. Bulk tin is far too expensive and not suitable anyway for building bridges. Tin cans are steel cans coated with a thin layer of tin to prevent them rusting. Sorry to bang on, but now you know... |
