On October 6, 2017, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired a true-color image of a broad bank of low cloud (fog) over central China.

Description
English: On October 6, 2017, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired a true-color image of a broad bank of low cloud (fog) over central China. The low clouds filled the Sichuan Basin, a flat, fertile lowlands comprised of low hills and plains and ringed by mountains. The surrounding mountains tend to impede free circulation of air across the basin. This helps moderate the winter’s temperature, by stopping the flow air from Central Asia. However, because the Sichuan Basin also enjoys high humidity, fog and haze in the basin are frequent. The western part of the Basin averages more than 300 days a year of fog.
