English: Stained glass window in the east aisle by Michael Healy (1873–1941), depicting John the Evangelist. This work was created in 1927 in the An Túr Gloine workshop in Dublin. Inscriptions: On top: “In Principio Erat Verbum” (quote of the Vulgate, John 1:1, translated: “In the beginning was the Word“); at the left border: “Naoṁ Eóin Sois-géal-aiḋe” (translated: St. John the Evangelist); at the bottom: “ORA PRO ANIMA IOANNIS SMYTH Obiit Jul 1924” (translated: Pray for the soul of John Smyth who died July 1924). Quote of Thomas MacGreevy: “The St. John (1927) shows Healy at the height of his powers both as artist and craftsman with the apocalyptic note beginning to strike clearly both in the expression of the evangelist and in the technical handling throughout, the eagle, particularly, being a wonderful creation in colours of fire and gold.“ (See Nicola Gordon Bowe et al, Gazetteer of Irish Stained Glass, ISBN 0-7165-2413-9, p. 57; St Brendan's Cathedral, Loughrea, ISBN 0-900346-76-0; C.
