The true inwardness of some of thestock selling schemes of doubtful devicesis often amusing, especially if you haventbought any of the stock yourself; if youhave, you are more apt to be mad thanto be amused. It will be remembered that the adver-tisements for stock selling announced thattwo engines had been ordered by theSouth Jersey Railroad and been endorsedby Mr. C. A. Beach, the general super-intendent, his letter being used in theadvertisement as evidence that the en-gines were approved by practical railroadmen, even if Locomotive Engineeringand other papers had shown the fallacyof their principle and design.
