Rachel Carson, because she showed great commitment and was pivotal in conservation history.

When you began your career, did you ever see yourself working for the USFWS?

No, I was unfamiliar with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service when I began my career. However, I spent time at Cape Cod National Seashore and Acadia National Park as a child and I had an interest in the U.S. Department of the Interior. My first significant work experience was with Youth Conservation Corps when I was 15.

The mission of the USFWS is “Working with others to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people” How do you contribute to this mission?

Most of my work involves facilities supporting visitors, as well as employees and partners of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Sustainable practices and use of renewable energy and energy conservation measures help protect the environment for fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats.

It takes a special person to dedicate their lives to public service. Why did you choose this path?

I am concerned with the public interest.

What do you like best about working for the USFWS?

I believe that the work of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service makes the world a better place.
