Text Appearing Before Image:
ew set ofdishes at each meal! We went to the circus and had a fine time. There were elephants, camels, monkeys, tigers, and alion who was king of them all. Then there was afunny clown and a great fat lady and a thin giantand a drummer with a pill-box drum. But, oh! the strangest animals were calledCHILDREN! They moved about alone and madetheir arms go all by themselves. They were a pinkishwhite and had real hair which grew on their heads. It cant blow off, Polly says. Those children madegood music just by opening their mouths. Petersaid they were singing. I hope you may see realchildren some time. One day we went to a big paper factory and theman gave me a nice book. This letter-paper I boughtin a store kept by such a queer-looking man. Hisbody and his head were made of pill-boxes and hehad three stiff legs and two stiff arms. To-morrow I am going to Shadow-Land. I shallleave the horses here and go on a train. Polly iswaiting to post this, so good-by from Your loving daughter, CLARA.25
Text Appearing After Image:
Every one in Paper-Land was very sorry to haveClara go away. The druggist brought her a pinkpill-box to keep her best bonnet in. The man at thepaper factory sent some pretty napkins and a papercup to carry with her lunch. Even the farm animalseach brought a little gift. The cow gave her a nice comb made from herbroken horn; the pig gave her a beautiful hair-brushmade from his bristles; the sheep gave enough softwool for a little dress; the duckling brought downfor a pillow; the hen brought fresh-laid eggs for herlunch; and the roosters and turkeys pulled out theirprettiest feathers to trim her winter hats. When the man came to take Claras eight trunksto the train, the sheep baaed, the cow mooed, thepig grunted, the turkeys gobbled, the hen clucked, 26 the chicks peeped, the rooster crowed, and Pollyand Peter wept, although tears are not good for paperchildren. Uncle Paper took his little niece to the train andfound her a good seat near a window. Toot, toot, toot, toot! Ding, dong, ding
