Title
English: Linotype operators in the Erikson Building, Seattle, Washington, ca. 1906
Description
English:

Probably worked for the Pacific Tribune, a Swedish newspaper that had offices in the Erikson Building. On verso of image: Linotype operators in the Erikson Building, Seattle, Washington, about 1906. From left: Andrew Odegaard, Martin Anderson, Peter Adamson.

  • Subjects (LCTGM): Linotype--Washington (State)--Seattle; Printing; industry--Washington (State)--Seattle; Erikson Building; (Seattle, Wash.)

The John Erikson Building, named for the publisher of the Swedish-language Pacific Tribune, stood at the northwest corner of First and University, immediately south of the Post Edwards Building. It was built some time after 1900 (this 1901 photo shows it not yet there). It is mentioned in passing in the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods page about the Post Edwards Building (though they spell it "Erickson"), which says it was "demolished in the late 1990s to allow the construction of the Harbor Properties Condominium."

Swedish Seattle (2007) by Paul Norlen (Arcadia Press, ISBN 0738548081), page 17, has a better version of this photo, credits as UW5788, dates it as February 1904, and specifically says this was the Svenska Pacific Tribunen (Swedish Pacific Tribune). However, it looks like that date is wrong. It probably came from the date on the photo at File:Linotype operator, Peter J Adamson in the Swedish Tribune newspaper office, Seattle, Washington, February 1904 (INDOCC 141).jpg, but that is apparently a different, earlier office of the paper.
