Description

Scope and content: This file unit consists of general correspondence received by Henry A.S. Dearborn in his capacity as Superintendent of Massachusetts Lighthouses. Included are letters and circulars from Revenue Commissioner Samuel Smith relating to authorizations for new lighthouses and the approval of expenses for repairs and supplies at existing facilities. This file unit also includes correspondence related to construction proposals for lighthouses at Bald Head, North Carolina; Presque Isle, Pennsylvania; Buffalo, New York; and an unnamed location “at the mouth of the Mississippi.”
