Summary[edit]
DescriptionLiddington Castle (complete), Liddington, Swindon - geograph.org.uk - 625544.jpg |
English: Liddington Castle (complete), Liddington, Swindon In this view we can see the northern ramparts in their entirety. The hill fort is late bronze age/early iron age. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liddington_Castle
The area of Liddington Hill beneath the fort has only ever been used for pastoral purposes in the time I have known it - there are sheep here now, cattle can be seen at other times - but in the distant past it may have seen arable uses as there are what appears to be strip lynchets just to the left of the disused chalkpit at the right of the image. The hedge line in the middle distance is the Ridgeway. Beneath that is a large field in which a crop is germinating well. Hidden in a cutting is the M4 motorway. |
