Summary[edit]

Description
English: Lichens are plant-like composite organisms composed of algae and fungi living together for mutual benefit (= mutualistic symbiosis). They encrust a variety of surfaces, including solid rock. The substrate at this site is rocks of the Cadillac Mountain Granite, which dates to ~419 Ma (= Silurian-Devonian boundary times).

The greenish and bluish-gray lichens appear to be Rhizocarpon.

Locality: near the summit of Cadillac Mountain, Acadia National Park, Maine, USA
