Summary[edit]

Description
English: A footpath following a former section of the Lexington Branch off Thorndike Street in East Arlington in November 2020. This right-of-way was constructed in 1870 along with what would later become part of the Fitchburg Cutoff to connect the Lexington and West Cambridge Railroad to the Boston and Lowell Railroad mainline. In 1881, the Central Massachusetts Railroad was connected to the cutoff slightly to the southeast of this location. In 1927, the Boston and Maine Railroad re-connected the Lexington Branch to the Fitchburg mainline; while most of the Fitchburg Cutoff continued in use as a freight cutoff, this short portion was soon abandoned.
