Summary[edit]
| Description |
English: Levels at the abandoned Nant Mine Underground mining at Nant was intermittent. The mine which produced 46,000 tons of manganese ore over a period of some 70 years was most active between 1902-1907. In 1906 alone, 10,000 tons of ore was produced. World War I saw renewed activIty but by the early 1920s mining had ceased and apart from a handful of men who were reworking the spoil heaps no more ore was produced from the mine. Even so, in 1941-2 a whole year was spent pumping out flood waters from the mine, but consequently no mining took place. |
