Summary[edit]

Description

NPS/Patrick Myers Lenticulars form as a mountain ridge traps lenses of moisture from high-altitude streams of air. The Sangre de Cristo Mountains are ideal for this, as a narrow range that reaches over 14,000 feet (4,200m). In addition, the low curve of the mountains that traps sand here acts as a funnel for streams of moist air.

The result is bizarre, otherworldly clouds that astonish people!
