Description

Lecanora imshaugii Brodo

  • Location: Pisgah National Forest, Haywood Co., North Carolina, USA.
  • Observation Notes: Lecanora glabrata fungal spores. HABITAT well-lit mature hardwood forest on broad high ridge; SUBSTRATE: hardwood bark; ASPECT: partly sunny;
  • NOTES K+y weak, C-, KC-, ecorticate greenish-whitish crust, abundant lecanorine apothecia, rims thalline with no cortex but algal-free zone around margin, algae scattered in clumps below apothecia, amphithecium POL+ white small crystals not clearing in K, epihymenium brownish POL- clearing somewhat in K, hymenium clear to reddish brownish in places;
  • SPORES: 8 per ascus, ellipsoid, smooth, hyaline, 11-13 × 6-8 µm
  • DET BY: James Lendemer, 6 Dec. 2020, notice the white margin on young apothecia
