Description

Le palazzo Grassi a été aménagé par l'architecte japonais Tadao Ando à la demande de François Pinault pour accueillir sa collection d'art contemporain.

Le bâtiment possède 40 salles, sa surface est de 5.000 m2. Il a été inauguré en avril 2006.

Une oeuvre de Urs Fisher intitulée "Bad Timing Lamb Chop" (2004-2005) est placée devant le bâtiment sur le grand canal.

Cette oeuvre fait partie de l'exposition intitulée "Mapping the studio"

Le palazzo Grassi a été construit dans le style néo-classique, au début du XVIIIème siècle, pour la famille Grassi par Giorgio Massari.

Dès 1830, il a changé de propriétaires plusieurs fois parmi lesquels figure la société FIAT en 1984. Les architectes : Gae Aulenti et Antonio Foscari l'ont restauré pour lui permettre d'accueillir des expositions, tout en respectant son caractère.
