Description

The laying of the foundation stone of the Kursaal (now Royal Hall), Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England, on 4 January 1902.

The central figure in top hat is Alderman Fortune. To the right of him in costume is the mace bearer, and in front of the mace bearer is Mayor David Simpson (1860–1931). To the right of Simpson, in tall topper and full beard is Samson Fox, and half-hidden to the right of Fox is the town clerk J. Turner Taylor.
