Summary[edit]

Description
English: Great Sitkin is an active volcano in the Aleutian archipelago off the Alaska Peninsula. According to the US Geological Survey Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO), this remote volcano started erupting in the summer of 2021. The ongoing effusive activity has created two rivers of lava that spill from the crater rim and flow along the southern flank of the volcano, as visible in this image acquired on 8 April 2022 by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites. Data gathered by the Copernicus Sentinel satellites allow the monitoring of remote volcanoes around the world.
