Description Newspaper reprint of a World War II photograph of people in a Women's Voluntary Service (WVS) cafe in Harrogate (at that time in the West Riding of Yorkshire), England. Dr Laura Sobey Veale is there, in a prominent position, because she was running the WVS in Harrogate throughout the war.

The 1989 caption to this reprinted World War II photographs is: "Women's voluntary service canteen for Harrogate A.R.P. (Air Raid Precautions) workers was opened by the mayoress (Mrs H. Dawson) at Bradley's Cafe, Harrogate, on Saturday morning. Left to right: Mrs F. Allum, Mrs Roberts, Mr C. Bateman, Major G. W. Ferrand, Coun. H. Dawson, Mr A.I. Seaton, Mrs Dawson, Major F.A. Johnson, Dr Laura Veale, Supt. J.T. Cockroft, and Mrs G.A. Spenceley (deputy Mayoress)".
