Title |
Late Post Medieval copper alloy fob seal cage and chain in the form of a sitting greyhound with a turned head |
||
Description |
English: Late Post-medieval to Early Modern copper alloy fob seal cage and Belcher chain in the form of a sitting greyhound with a turned head. there appears to be some remnant gilding but the seal itself is absent. The use of naturalistic crouched greyhounds, lurchers and whippets as seal fobs and other small metal decorative items was common from the end of the Victorian period and into the Edwardian. Many fobs of this style originated in France and Belgium, as well as Great Britain. This fob is most likely to date between c1875 and c1910 AD, though a date outside this period cannot be discounted.
The length is 27mm, the width is 22mm and the weight 6.68g. |
