English: Landslide on the road from Union Chain Bridge The Union Chain Bridge lies on a minor road between Horncliffe (in England) and Paxton (in Scotland). It is an important route for cyclists crossing the Border as it avoids heavy traffic and carries both route 1 of the National Cycle Network (originally conceived as the Inverness and Dover route, now part of the North Sea Cycle Route http://www.sustrans.org.uk/default.asp?sID=1144848978671) and route 68 (Pennine Cycleway
http://www.cycle-routes.org/penninecycleway/). Currently closed due to a landslide on the English side, it is unlikely to be re-opened for some considerable length of time. |
