Description
English: Engraving of the Lafayette Theatre, on the west side of Laurens Street (today called West Broadway), between Canal Street and Grand Street, in New York City. On the right is page 327 of: Colden, Cadwallader D. (1825) Memoir, Prepared at the Request of a Committee of the Common Council of the City of New York, and Presented to the Mayor of the City, at the Celebration of the Completion of the New York Canals, W. A.Davis (printer), by order of The Corporation of New York. That page (paragraph 3) and the following two describe the ball given at this venue on November 7, 1825, in celebration of the opening of the Erie Canal.
