Hay un nuevo Goya en el desván El País, 10 de julio de 2011. Arturo Ansón Navarro, experto en la obra del artista, dijo entonces que había varias telas más por descubrir de esta etapa definida por algunos expertos por "cuando Goya no era aún Goya". El historiador Fernando Tabar Anitua, investigador de la obra de Goya, es el autor del estudio sobre La Virgen con san Joaquín y santa Ana, publicado en el último número de la revista especializada Ars Magazine. Asegura que la obra se encuentra en perfecto estado y que las pequeñas faltas y suciedad han sido eliminadas por Pilar Bustinduy, de la Universidad del País Vasco, que ha suprimido la tabla y fijado el lienzo por medio de bandas a un bastidor nuevo con cuñas.
