Français : Alexandre Aguado, marquis de Las Marismas (1784-1842), banquier d'origine espagnole installé à Paris, était l'une des premières fortunes d'Europe sous la Monarchie de Juillet. Il constitua en quelques années une collection riche de plus de 500 tableaux, dont les deux tiers de l'école espagnole. Installée dans sa résidence parisienne (l'actuelle mairie du 9e arrdt.), elle était libéralement ouverte au public et permit aux artistes français de découvrir la peinture espagnole du Siècle d'or.
