Le Futurisme est un mouvement littéraire et artistique dont le manifeste violent, nationaliste, anti-féministe et provocateur a été publié dans le Figaro du 20 février 1909 par le poète italien Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, qui a soutenu le parti fasciste italien de Mussolini. gallica.bnf.fr/conseils/content/futurisme#:~:text=Mouveme.... Si de nombreuses oeuvres des peintres futuristes italiens de l'époque mettent en images la violence guerrière et la mécanisation de la société comme les justifie le Manifeste, certaines d'entre elles, dont l'oeuvre de Gino Severini, s'inscrivent dans la continuité de l'histoire de l'art tout en valorisant la vitesse et le mouvement.
