Summary[edit]

Description
English: To study harmful algal blooms in Lake Erie, NOAA and CIGLR teamed up with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute and university partners to use a long-range autonomous underwater vehicle (LRAUV) equipped with a 3rd Generation (3G) Environmental Sample Processor (ESP). This instrument's job is to measure microcystin, a potent liver toxin produced by the cyanobacteria that cause harmful algal blooms in the Great Lakes. Credit: Steve Ruberg, NOAA GLERL
