Summary[edit]

Description
English: An LC-130 airplane flown by the 61st Troop Carrier Squadron from Sewart Air Force Base, Tennessee. A C-130 Hercules cargo plane with skis is known as an LC-130. The first LC-130 to land in Antarctica was on 23 January 1960, and the first to land at the South Pole occurred on 28 January 1960. Today the New York Air National Guard maintains and flies the ten LC-130s in service, in support of the National Science Foundation’s polar research in both Antarctica and the Arctic.
