Summary[edit]

Description
English: Kit's Hill floodlight station This is probably the last known example of such a floodlight station. This huge steel framework is 50 feet across. The floodlight would have been centralised and surrounded by twelve huge mirrors pointing skyward. The idea was to light up the sky as a defence against the Luftwafe. The experiment was eventually abandoned after the government realised such floodlights would indeed assist, rather than hinder, the 'enemy'. Other floodlights were built around the Chelmsford area, but this is the only one known to have survived. I have visited a few other sites, but found nothing as impressive as this.
