Summary
[edit]DescriptionKirk Loch and Red Head - geograph.org.uk - 911092.jpg |
English: Kirk Loch and Red Head Red Head is the highest point on the Angus coast, and is made up of Old Red Sandstone. The bay in the foreground is named as the Kirk Loch on maps, though I have not heard this name used. The rocks in this bay, and the headland at the far end of the bay, are formed of basaltic andesites and andesitic basalts of the Montrose Volcanics. Part of the reason for this stretch of coast being designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest is the variety of contacts between the sedimentary rocks and the volcanic rocks. |
