Racing With what throbbing pulses the Prince hadwatched this thrilling contest of giants can only beguessed. As for spectators, the cheers had swelledto a hurricane which must have heen heard for milesaround. The Prince of Wales had won the Derby !After years of patience and ill-luck, at last he hadhis reward. It was a spectacle such as had neverbeen witnessed before on a racecourse. Membersrushed down from the stand to the enclosure, wavingtheir hats as they gazed up to where His Royal High-ness stood, pale but with a delighted smile on his face.It was not a time for reticence, and these membersof the Club roared as lustily as the crowd outside.In a moment the course was covered by a densethrong, all eyes directed to the place where thePrince still stood, all mouths open to add to thetorrent of congratulation. His Royal Highness lefthis stand. Tradition demands that the owner ofthe Derby winner should lead in his horse, so thePrince had gone down to perform the allottedfunction. The
