Türkçe: 1906’nın 1 Mayıs günü Paris Grand Palais’de açılan, Fransız Sanatçılar Derneği’nin (Société des Artistes Français) düzenlediği Salon sergisinde Fransızca adı “L’homme aux Tortues” (Kaplumbağalı Adam), sergiye ait katalogların birindeyse ingilizce adı kısaca “Tortoises” (Kaplumbağalar) olarak verilen resim Osman Hamdi Bey’in “Kaplumbağa Terbiyecisi” olarak tanınmış olan eseridir. Resmin üzerinde yer alan 1906 tarihi, Mayıs ayındaki sergiye yetişebilmesi için yılın ilk aylarında tamamlanmış olması gerektiğini düşündürür. Sanatçı bir yıl sonra, ayrıntılarda bazı farklılıklar içerse de aynı kompozisyonu yansıtan daha küçük boyutlu bir resim daha yapmıştır. Bu ikinci versiyonda Osman Hamdi Bey’in dünürü Salih Münir Paşa’ya ithaf edildiğini gösteren bir yazı bulunur. |
