Description
English: This protected industrial monument at the Rancho Street is the only lime kiln remaining in Aruba. It was built in 1892 by Santiago Tromp. The kiln was used for the production of lime. Coral Stones and shells were pulverized and burned, then water was added to make lime. The lime was used to plaster and paint the local houses and buildings.
Nederlands: Dit beschermde industriële monument aan de Ranchostraat is de enige overgebleven kalkoven op Aruba. Het werd in 1892 gebouwd door Santiago Tromp. De oven werd gebruikt voor de productie van kalk. Koraalstenen en schelpen werden verpulverd en verbrand, waarna water werd toegevoegd om kalk te maken. De kalk werd gebruikt om de lokale huizen en gebouwen te pleisteren en te schilderen.
