| Description |
English: It is temple of sun located in North Eastern Corner of Puri, Orissa, India. It was build in middle of 13th Century with the help of 1200 artisans over a period of 12 years. It is a marvelous creation of artistic magnificence and an engineering wonder.There is abundance of sculptural work. However the main temple has fallen off from inside and only outside and ruins can be seen. It is believed that the temple was based on large iron pillars which were supported by a very big magnet. That magnet was supposed to distract the Britishers ships during the colonial period. So it is believed that Britishers removed that magnet resulting in destruction of temple and its current state. |
