Title
KENT-EC13F5: Post Medieval silver gilt finger ring
Description
English: A Medieval silver gilt finger Fede ring of 14th- 15th century date. The bezel consists of two clasped hands with cuffs to either side. The rectangular sectioned band has insised decoration around the outside edge with no markings of the inside edge. An apparently separate flower decoration has been soldered on to the reverse of the band, opposite the bezel.

Fede (Italian meaning 'faith') rings were a popular love token from the 12th century and remained so well into 19th century. The hands joined symbolised the love and faith between two people.

The ring is 22.2mm in diameter, 6.9mm wide and weighs 4.53 grams.

Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
