Title
KENT-D4DBE5: Early Medieval Anglo-Saxon Vessel Sherd
Description
English: Pottery sherd, probably from a vessel of Anglo-Saxon date. The sherd has a red-brown buff surface, while the body is grey with white crushed shell inclusions. The sherd is from the base of the vessel, with a concave base and convex side where it forms part of the vessel body (see drawing, sherd number 5). There are worn breaks on all edges. There is no decoration on the sherd. The measurements are 32mm long, 19mm wide and has a maximum thickness of 20mm. Found with nine other sherds, four of which are believed to be from the same vessel; see records KENT-D4A887, KENT-D4C866, KENT-D4D178 and KENT-D4D682. The relation of these sherds to each other can be seen on the attached drawing.
