Title
KENT-40BF46: Post Medieval Toy Clock
Description
English: A lead alloy toy pocket-watch from the post-medieval period. The watch is a circular convex disc with a diameter of 30.8mm and with a flat edge. Both side have the same design: a beaded edge, a band of ornate foliage decoration in relief and then another row of beading before the clock face in the center. The numerals are Roman and are enclosed within raised bands. The inner face is plain, and the hands are cast in relief, set at six o'clock. An integral circular suspension loop is at the 12 o'clock position.

Geoff Egan writes in the Finds Research Group Datasheet 10 "Base Metal Toys", that the earliest lead alloy toy watches were probably made in the middle of the seventeenth century, and that the single hand set to six o'clock is typical. This example is probably late seventeenth or eighteenth century in date.
