Object history Provenance: Consul General Th. Olesen probably bought the painting at Koedfoed's auction 25 October 1815 no. 17 with the title “Ligeledes en original esquisse (skitse) af Juel, forestillende ham selv med kone og barn”. (Likewise an original esquisse (sketch) of Juel, depicting himself with wife and child)“. Widow Verdier and others, auction 13 April 1908 no. 78: ”Family group by Jens Juel?", Bought by art dealer Larsen. An auction 15. April 1921 no. 26. Bruun Rasmussen auction 465, 1984 no. 200, reproduced p. 65. Sold at Bruun Rasmussen Auctions on September 21, 2021 for DKK 28,000 to the Museum of National History (Lot 903/​65).
