Description
This painting was originally identified as a portrait of prince Alexander of Augustenborg, son of Louise Augusta and duke Fredeik Christian of Augustenborg. It is doubtfull if such a prince ever existed, and when Ellen Poulsen made a catalog of Juel's paintings in 1991, she chose instead to point to either the couple's oldest daughter, Caroline Amalie (1796-1881), or to princess Caroline (1793-1881), daughter of king Frederik VI of Denmark and queen Marie.
