Summary[edit]

Description
English: George V Memorial Cross (Canadian) a.k.a. the Silver Cross, an award given to the mothers and/or widows of Canadian soldiers who were killed on active duty, or whose death was attributed to same. The award was first instituted by the Canadian government on Dec. 1, 1919, and it was given to the mothers/wives of Canadian soldiers killed in WWI. The medal in the photograph was awarded to Janet McCrae (circa 1921), the mother of Lt. Col. John McCrae, WWI soldier & author of the poem "In Flanders Fields". It is on display as a part of the John McCrae medal collection, at the Colonel John McCrae Birthplace & Memorial Garden (museum), in Guelph, Ontario, Canada.

This photograph requires colour-correction! The cross is silver not golden, & the display label cards are white, with mostly black text; the problem was due to the limitations of the camera in extreme close-up mode, lighting conditions, & restrictions on flash photography. (please see: File:JohnMcCraemedals01.JPG for a more-correct colour-set for the same item).
