Title
English: James E. Mahoney on way to court, Seattle, 1921
Description
English:

One of the state's most notorious crimes, the "Mahoney Trunk Murder" occurred in Seattle in 1921. The victim was Kate Mooers, 72, an eccentric and wealthy woman who married for the third time to James E. Mahoney, 38, a convicted robber. After Kate's body was discovered in a trunk in Lake Union, Mahoney was indicted for first degree murder. The trial was big news nationally. It began on September 21, 1921, and ten days later the jury found Mahoney guilty. In this photo, Mahoney is on the right, handcuffed to a Seattle law enforcement official.
