Summary[edit]

Description

English: Meister der Aachener Schranktüren (Werkstadt) (Master of the Aachen Cupboard Doors (Workshop)).

Scourging of Christ, c. 1490

Originally part of a Passion altar, the panel came into the possession of the Hohenzollerns in the 19th century. It was exhibited in the Grunewald hunting lodge before the Second World War, was stolen in 1945 and found its way to the Indiana University Art Museum in Bloomington (IN), which generously donated the panel back in 2011. Other known parts of the altar are in the Würth Collection, Schwäbisch Hall, and in private hands.
