| Description |
English: In January 1955, Jacques Soustelle was appointed Governor-General of Algeria. He used as a personal vehicle flag the French flag with his shield in the center. The shield is described thus: "Per pale, gules a lion reversed or (a reference to Lyon, Soustelle's birthplace) and argent a cross of Lorraine or (proclaiming his adherence to Free France), on a chief azure seven stars (representing the rank of Governor-General) supported by a crescent (symbol of Algeria) and flanked by the initials J and S, all or".
Français : En Janvier 1955, Jacques Soustelle est nommé gouverneur général de l'Algérie. Il a utilisé comme un drapeau le véhicule personnel du pavillon français avec son bouclier dans le centre. Le bouclier est décrite ainsi: "Par pâle, de gueules au lion inversé or (une référence à Lyon , ville natale de Soustelle) et d 'argent une croix de Lorraine or (proclamant son adhésion à la France Libre ), au chef d'azur sept étoiles (représentant le grade de gouverneur général) pris en charge par un croissant (symbole de l'Algérie) et flanqué par le J initiales et S, en tout or en ". |
