Computed and observed second-order shifts plotted against first-order Doppler shifts

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Ives and Stillwell plotted the second-order shifts in center of gravity of their Doppler-shift pairs (a measure of the transverse Doppler effect) against the first-order shifts (a measure of particle speed). The observed shifts lay along a parabolic line precisely matching the theoretical curve predicted by special relativity.
